Skiing Here I come!

  • 24 Feb 2016

This weekend I am off on a girlie long weekend away skiing and I have been counting down the sleeps. A whole weekend of childfree (much as I love them but distance makes the heart grow fonder… right?) girlie chat, the Alps, snow, vin chaud and throw some skiing in there too? – Total Bliss.

Obviously a weekend away with the girls requires a little Vogue inspiration – I did have quite a giggle to myself when I read its answer to Ski chic ….
“Don’t ski, apparently the après-ski action, shopping, dining and general moments of selfie-taking in Chanel sunglasses with mountain-top backdrops are more popular these days.” Now, I’m not a hard-core skier but I do like to do some skiing, preferably in the morning, nice and early so the pistes are bashed and still smooth followed by a long lazy lunch and one or two runs in the afternoon before hitting the bars – that’s my type of skiing.

So I’ve been perusing the internet for my dream ski wardrobe and here are a few items that have had me swooning. Schoffel Women’s Belvedere II jacket (£389.99 Ellis Brigham). It looks super glam and feminine with the monochrome gingham print down the sides and the adjustable belt. The hood is removable with a faux-fur trim and an inner snow skirt, it’s ideal to go from the slopes to après in style! I would then pair the slim fitting jacket with the Perfect Moment Aurora Flare Pant (£245, they are incredibly flattering with its standout styling and fashionably flared bottom.

As someone who is always cold and layered up to the max even at sea level I would love to have the super cosy Sweaty Betty’s Transition ski merino leggings and top ( to team underneath. For those extra layers between the cute thermals and the jacket I will be donning my Needle Amie cashmere jumper for a sporty vibe, slim fitting so it works really well under a jacket.

To finish off; hands and feet would ideally be snug in the Smartwool PHD medium ski socks and the Montana Etip Gloves from North Face (£69.99 (I love the fact you don’t have to take your gloves off to access your smart phone!)

For apres-ski I’ll be slinging on the odd Needle favourites, the Dulcie jumper, which has a cute pop of coral on the hem and cuff but is cashmere so will keep me nice and toasty or the Celine jumper, which is a merino stripey top – a classic. Lastly, for accessories I’d be working snow boots, ideally a pair of Sorel Joan of Artic waterproof suede and leather boots (£150, with a pair of black skinny jeans (MIH Bodycon Jean in Power Black from and a pair of statement shades like Ray-ban Aviators for relaxing in the sun at lunchtime.

With all that I would be set for a Vogue weekend on the slopes but instead I will be squashing as much as humanly possible into a tiny hand luggage case ….literally a nightmare for me, I am so not a hand lugguage type of girl! So if you are passing Leeds Bradford airport on Friday morning and see someone trying to keep her case closed whilst wearing her helmet, that will probably be me!

Love is in the air but so is Spring!

  • 10 Feb 2016

Every year I look forward to Valentines Day, not because I enjoy seeing the postman struggling up the drive under the weight of all my cards, presents and flowers but because once we have passed Valentines Day the days are definitely longer and its great picking the children up from school when it’s not dark. It gives me an excited feeling that Spring is just round the corner and then Summer is not too far behind!

With that in mind I feel like I need to refresh my wardrobe and inject some new life into it, I still need to be warm (its cold up north) but maybe some brighter, fresher colours, lighter weight knits and more layering.

Luckily for me, our new Spring Summer 2016 collection arrived at Needle HQ this week and it is now live on our website, perfect timing! We’ve also sent it out to our fabulous stockists and the feedback has been great, in fact one of the styles has already sold out at one of our stockists!

Our latest collection brings you spring weight lux staples for your wardrobe. Stylish pieces in cotton, cashmere and linen blends in nudes, coral and blues mixed up with stripes and tactile stitch textures. Comfortable but stylish, we make sure our necklines are flattering, a flash of colour where you weren’t expecting it, with subtle detailing that makes each style just that little bit different and making sure all our yarns feel great to wear. This Spring Summer collection is gorgeous, fresh and very wearable!

I have got my sights set on our new Evie jumper. It is the perfect piece for now, it ticks all the boxes, its 100% cashmere, so still cosy and great for wearing early in the year and it looks great when it’s layered up but can also see you through summer. At the moment I love wearing it layered with a long sleeve tee, blue skinny jeans and Chelsea style ankle boots. It’s a great jumper to feel relaxed in but it is also such a pretty jumper, the pointelle sleeves make it look just that little bit more delicate than your average cashmere jumper and with the cut being slightly boxy and loose, it gives it a gentle swing so the stripes on the lower back pop round to the front sides every now and again. I’m renowned in the Needle office for accessorizing with a scarf, it can add a dash of colour and break an outfit up, but with the Evie I want to show off the neck line. It is a simple round neck but with the contrasting coloured sleeves that continue up to the neck trim, it makes a statement on its own and should definitely be left scarf free!!

Please check out the new collection on our website, I’d love to hear your feedback.
