Going it alone

  • 18 Feb 2014

After a 4-month break from fashion, I decided it was time to return and this time, go it alone. I wanted to create a brand that would become known for fun, wearable knitwear. Attention to detail was key, and the brand needed to be classic with a quirky twist. Needle was born.

There’s always something unusual about Needle knitwear. I wanted production to be based in both Italy and the UK, but after a rollercoaster experience I settled with a ‘Made in Italy’ brand. I’m delighted – Italians make beautiful knitwear and I get to indulge my gelato addiction! And I’ll start learning Italian soon… promise.

Our Style

We lead with strong imagery, which helps create our brand identity – our photographer Sean (or The Man in The Waders, as we like to call him!) really understands what we want to achieve with the brand and has made it his mission to translate that into beautiful photos. Our debut collection – Autumn Winter 13 – was shot in harsh English January conditions, but the three days on set were so memorable. Sean in his waders, Karen (our beautiful blonde model) with her six-month-old baby and husband, heavy and unexpected snow warded off with copious amounts of warming soup… our chirpy and enthusiastic team made it an incredible experience and one I will always treasure.
